This article explains the types of API tokens available in Spotinst, when to use each type, and how to view token ownership and permissions.
This can help you choose the right token for your integrations and manage access securely.
Token types
Spotinst supports two types of tokens:
- Programmatic tokens
Use programmatic tokens for API connections and when you integrate your services with Spot. These tokens aren’t tied to a specific user, so they remain valid even if user accounts change. - Personal tokens
You can also create personal tokens. If the user who owns a personal token is removed from Spot, every token they created becomes invalid. This may cause connected services or APIs to fail. Avoid personal tokens for system‑level integrations.
Transferring tokens between users
You can’t move or transfer a token to another user.
If you need to change ownership, create a new programmatic token and update your integrations to use it.
If you need to change ownership, create a new programmatic token and update your integrations to use it.
Viewing token ownership and permissions
You can view token owners and their permissions in the Spot console.
View token ownership
- In the Flexera console, select the user icon
.
- Choose Settings > API > Permanent tokens.
- Review the list to see the user who owns each token.
View user permissions
- In the Spot console, go to Organizations > Users.
- Find the user who created the token.
- Review the permissions assigned to that user.
