After migrating the Snow Inventory and Snow License Manager databases, the Data Update Job (DUJ) may fail or remain stuck at the LicenseManager Data Update step.
This can occur when the required SQL Server Agent jobs are not created after the database migration. In SQL Server Management Studio, the expected jobs are missing under SQL Server Agent > Jobs.
If the Data Update Job fails after a database migration, verify that the databases were migrated according to How to move databases.
Then perform the following checks:
- Confirm that the migration steps in the documentation were followed correctly.
- Confirm that the inventory server connection is correct and check the Web Configurator settings.
- In SQL Server Management Studio > SQL Server Agent > Jobs, confirm whether the required Snow License Manager jobs are present.
- If the jobs are missing, run the following query against the SnowLicenseManager database:
USE SnowLicenseManager EXEC JobAdd
- If the jobs are still not created, confirm that the LicenseManagerUser permissions specified by the migration process have been applied correctly.
- The JobAdd stored procedure creates the jobs by using the msdb database and the SQL Server stored procedure sp_add_job.
The role membership assigned for msdb by the documented process:
If the jobs were not created, temporarily assign the db_owner role for msdb to the account used to create the jobs.
After assigning the permission, run the following query again:
USE SnowLicenseManager EXEC JobAdd
This creates the jobs correctly.
- In SQL Server Management Studio > SQL Server Agent > Jobs, confirm that the required jobs have now been created.
- Remove the db_owner role from msdb after the jobs have been created successfully.
- Run the Data Update Job again.
IMPORTANT: The db_owner role for msdb is required only while creating the missing jobs. Remove this permission after the jobs have been created.
