This article explains what happens to nodes running pods with the spotinst.io/restrict-scale-down label during a cluster roll.
Q: Will a cluster roll replace nodes that have pods with the spotinst.io/restrict-scale-down label?
A: Yes. When you perform a cluster roll, the process replaces nodes even if they contain pods with the spotinst.io/restrict-scale-down label. This behavior also applies if the Virtual Node Group (VNG) restrict scale down option is enabled. In both cases, the nodes will still be replaced as part of the roll process.
Outcome
All relevant nodes will be replaced during a cluster roll, regardless of spotinst.io/restrict-scale-down labels or VNG settings.
