When running Snow Update Service, you may encounter the following error in the logs when checking for updates or running an SRS synchronization:
ERROR SnowSoftware.Update.Data.DataFactoryBase [(null)] - Could not connect via Tcp Client connection to server <servername>:1433
This indicates that Snow License Manager is unable to connect to the SQL Server instance.
This issue typically occurs in one of the following scenarios:
- TCP port 1433 (default for SQL Server) is blocked by a firewall or network security policy.
- The SQL Server is configured to use a non-standard port.
If the connection fails, Snow License Manager cannot read from the tblSystemInfo table, which prevents license validation and update processing.
To resolve this issue, choose one of the following options:
Option 1: Unblock port 1433
Ensure that TCP port 1433 is open between the application server and the SQL Server. Consult your network or firewall administrator if needed.
Option 2: Specify a custom SQL port
If your SQL Server uses a non-standard port, update the connection string in the Web Configurator to specify the correct port number.
- Format the server name as follows:
<servername>,<portnumber>
- Example:
myserver,5096
After making this change, restart any affected services and verify connectivity.
