Fix the “Invalid value for field” disk size error in GCP

Title

You may see an error when Elastigroup tries to start a VM in GCP. This usually happens when the disk size in your Elastigroup configuration is smaller than the disk size required by the image. GCP blocks the launch until you increase the disk size.

A typical error looks like:

Invalid value for field 'resource.disks[0].initializeParams.diskSizeGb': '80'. 
Requested disk size cannot be smaller than the image size (100 GB)

This error tells you that the boot disk defined in Elastigroup is smaller than the image’s minimum required size.

Solution

Go to Elastigroup in the Flexera console.
Select your group, then choose Actions, followed by Edit configuration.
Open the Compute settings.
Find Boot disk and update Disk size so it is larger than the disk size required by the image.
Save the configuration.

Outcome

After you increase the disk size in the Elastigroup configuration, GCP can start the VM without error.
