When deploying a new agent version in FlexNet Manager Suite, you need to register the corresponding packages on the application server. This process ensures the infrastructure can recognize and distribute the updated agent components across your environment.
Benefits of using a newer agent version:
- Bug fixes and stability improvements
- Enhanced performance for inventory scanning and data transfer
- Security enhancements for compliance
- Compatibility with modern operating systems and applications
The steps below guide you through registering packages for a new agent version to maintain consistent functionality and smooth upgrades.
To deploy agent packages to the application server
- Download the FlexNet Manager Suite installer package for the required version from the Product and License Center.
- Extract the package to a suitable directory, for example:
C:\Temp\FlexNetInstaller - Open a Windows PowerShell window and run the following commands:
cd "C:\Temp\FlexNetInstaller\FlexNet Manager Suite\Support"
.\DeployAgentPackages.ps1
.\DeployAgentPackagesToWebUI.ps1
- In the web interface, review the Inventory Settings page under:
- Inventory agent for automatic deployment
- Inventory agent for download
Confirm that the new agent version appears in these sections.
Things to consider if the agent version is higher than the application server
- Backward compatibility risks: While FlexNet Manager Suite agents are generally backward-compatible, some advanced features may not function until the FlexNet Manager Suite server matches the agent version.
- Support boundaries: Using agents ahead of the FlexNet Manager Suite server version may fall outside standard support guidelines and requires validation with Flexera.
- Upgrade complexity: If the FlexNet Manager Suite upgrade is delayed, managing version mismatches across thousands of endpoints can become challenging.
After completing these steps, the new agent version packages will be successfully registered on the FlexNet Manager Suite application server. This ensures that the FlexNet Manager Suite system can recognize, distribute, and deploy the updated agent across all targeted devices, maintaining accurate inventory collection and compliance reporting.
