In Flexera on Azure, on‑demand instances can automatically revert to Spot instances based on your optimization hours configuration. If these hours are not set correctly, instances may revert to Spot outside the time window you expect.
This usually happens when a single continuous time range is configured instead of defining daily time windows. The steps below explain how to configure optimization hours so on‑demand instances revert to Spot only during the intended times.
Cause
Optimization hours are evaluated as continuous time ranges. If you configure one range that starts on one day and ends on another, Flexera treats the entire period between those times as valid for Spot optimization.
For example, configuring optimization hours from Monday at 09:00 to Friday at 20:00 allows Spot reversion at any time during that entire span, including evenings on Monday through Thursday.
Solution
Configure separate optimization windows for each day instead of a single multi‑day range.
-
Open the stateful node configuration
In the Flexera console, go to Elastigroup > Stateful nodes, select the node, and then select Actions > Edit configuration.
-
Open availability settings
Go to Compute > Availability settings.
-
Configure custom optimization hours
Under Continuous optimization, select Custom.
-
Define daily optimization windows
Add a separate time window for each day you want Spot optimization to occur.
Example configuration for Monday through Friday, from 09:00 to 20:00:
-
Monday: 09:00 to 20:00
-
Tuesday: 09:00 to 20:00
-
Wednesday: 09:00 to 20:00
-
Thursday: 09:00 to 20:00
-
Friday: 09:00 to 20:00
Each day must have its own start and end time.
-
-
Save the configuration
Save and apply the changes.
