In some environments, you need to collect inventory and usage data from all servers, including beacon servers. Because you can’t install both the FlexNet Inventory Agent and the FlexNet Beacon software separately on the same device, you can use the agent components already included in the beacon installation.
This article shows you how to enable and configure those components so your beacon can gather inventory and usage data.
- Configure the registry setting
Set the following registry value to ensure the beacon uploads files only to its parent beacon (and not to others in your environment):
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ManageSoft Corp\ManageSoft\NetSelector\CurrentVersion\SelectorAlgorithm = MgsNameMatch(20,,true)- Download and bootstrap the agent policy
Run the appropriate command with local administrator permissions to download and initialize the agent policy. - For 2024 R1.2 (22.2) and later beacons:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Flexera Software\Inventory Beacon\Configuration\flxconfig.exe" --download-server http://localhost- For 2024 R1.1 (22.1) and earlier beacons:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Flexera Software\Inventory Beacon\Policy\mgspolicy.exe" -t Machine -o DownloadRootURL=http://localhost/ManageSoftDLNOTE: If your beacon uses HTTPS, replace http with https.
