Configuring headroom at the correct level helps your workloads start faster and improves resiliency during node interruptions.
Headroom provides two main benefits:
1. Fast scaling
Headroom keeps spare capacity available so new pods can start immediately.
Because the goal is to reserve shared capacity for the entire node group, headroom isn't designed for a single node.
2. Interruption protection
Headroom provides available capacity if a node is interrupted.
If all headroom sits on a single node and that node disappears, there's no remaining headroom to absorb new pods. Keeping headroom at the group level ensures consistent availability even if nodes fail.
