Symptoms

After following all the instructions regarding the placement of the 'haspsrm_win32.dll file in the %systemroot%system32 directory and ensuring that the correct drivers are installed, lmhostid still cannot 'see' the FlexID9 dongle when run from the 32 bit toolkit (i86_n3) on a 64 bit Windows machine. On a pure 32 bit machine however this works as expected.

Cause

We need to place the 32 bit dynamic library on SYSWOW64 folder for 32 bit kit to be working on 64 bit platform. This is because, internally we fetch the %systemroot% path and look for the dll in there. For 32 bit app on 64 bit platform, its SYSWOW64 folder which is referred.

We use GetSystemDirectory windows API to get the default system path for the dynamic loading of the dongle libraries. Below link (specifically comments at the end) gives clear understanding on this. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724373%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Resolution

Copy the 'haspsrm_win32.dll' file to the ?C:\Windows\SysWOW64? directory on 64 bit machines rather than the ?C:\Windows\System32? directory.
