Symptoms

When building an InstallShield project, the following error occurs:

isdev - 6652 cannot create isconfig.xml

Workaround

1. Change the component .NET settings: '.NET Installer Class'
   1. If the key file of the component is not a .Net Installer Class set this property to 'No'.
   2. If the key file of the component is a .Net Installer Class ensure there is only one key file in the component or place the .Net Installer Class in a new component.
2. Ensure a directory exists or create a directory with the same name as your *.ism as a subfolder. Example:
   1. The project is 'test.ism' and exists in directory 'C:\InstallShieldProjects'
      C:\InstallShieldProjects\test.ism
   2. Create the directory 'test' under directory 'InstallShieldProjects':
      'C:\InstallShieldProjects\test\'

Additional Information

• The _isconfig.xml file is created when a .NET assembly is selected as a key file for a component and the InstallShield '.NET Installer Class' setting is set to 'Yes' for the component.
• It is embedded with the setup as a support file. The file is project specific and requires '.NET Framework File Locations' under the Options->.NET setting for InstallShield to be set correctly.
• The _isconfig.xml file is a config file passed to InstallUtilLib at build time for use to run the .NET installer classes.
• At build time InstallUtilLib is embedded into the binary table and custom actions are added that use the information in_isconfig.xml. Then at runtime the installer classes for that .NET assembly will be run.
