Create a Component Condition Based on a Feature Being Installed or Not

Discussion

The use of operator states can be used to determine the state of features or components for a condition ? Microsoft list these as:

Component table key	$	Action state of the component.
Component table key	?	Installed state of the component.
Feature table key	&	Action state of the feature.
Feature table key	!	Installed state of the feature.

The problem however is that the above action states cannot be used in the component condition field. Microsoft explains that this syntax is only valid:

?In the Condition table, and in the sequence tables, after the CostFinalize action.?

As the component condition table is checked during CostFinalize this prevents the use of these states here.

The following example will show how ?NewComponent1? is prevented from installing when ?NewFeature3? is installed, and also how ?NewComponent1? is installed when?NewFeature3? is not installed.

The following events are added to the ?InstallNow? button on the ?ReadyToInstall? Dialog:
