Discussion

By default, the only edition of InstallShield 2010 and later that includes the Trialware view is the Premier edition. This edition lets you create the Try and Die type of trialware. InstallShield 2010 and later no longer includes built-in support for creating the Try and Buy/Product Activation type of trialware.

If you have an existing InstallShield Activation Service account and you want to be able to create the Try and Buy/Product Activation type of trialware in InstallShield 2010 or later, you can still do so. The following instructions explain how.

To add support for creating Try and Buy/Product Activation trialware in the Premier edition of InstallShield 2010 and later:

Download the attached .reg file onto the machine that has InstallShield 2010 or later.
Run the .reg file.

For InstallShield 2010: The .reg file adds a DWORD value named Trialware with value data of 1 to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InstallShield\16.0\Professional

For InstallShield 2011: The .reg file adds a DWORD value named Trialware with value data of 1 to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InstallShield\17.0\Professional

For InstallShield 2012: The .reg file adds a DWORD value named Trialware with value data of 1 to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InstallShield\18.0\Professional

For InstallShield 2012 Spring: The .reg file adds a DWORD value named Trialware with value data of 1 to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InstallShield\19.0\Professional

The next time that you open or create a project in InstallShield, the Trialware view is displayed, enabling you to configure and build the Try and Buy/Product Activation type of trialware. The support is the same as that provided in earlier versions of InstallShield.
