Error "javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake" while sending Email Notification

Title

Symptoms:

While sending email order notifications to customer from FNO producer portal user is receiving the following error in UI.

[Incident# xxxx-xxxx] javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake

Diagnosis:

When an email notification was triggered from FNO UI, up on pressing "Email" button from view entitlement page, following exceptions being written in FlexNet log.

javax.mail.MessagingException: Could not convert socket to TLS
at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.startTLS(SMTPTransport.java:1930)
[default task-21] ERROR (actions) [ADMN] javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake

This problem is observed only with FNO versions 2018 R1, 2018 R1 SP1 and 2017 R4. It is also observed that this problem starts popping, if the customer do any TLS related changes (For example, disabling old TLS version 1.0 and 1.1) in the network where FNO is running.

Solution:

To fix the problem there are two options:

1) To upgrade the FNO to 2020 R1 or higher versions.

2) Raise a ticket to support to get a hotfix for 2018 R1/SP1 or 2017 R4. There is a readily available hotfix for these versions of FNO.
