Summary
Solution for licensing FlexNet Operations locally. Ideal for closed network environments.
Synopsis
To make licensing and license updates easier, FlexNet Operations releases starting in 2016 moved to a Cloud-based license server hosted by Revenera. This article is about how to move from using the Cloud-based license server to a local license server, if connectivity to Revenera is an issue.
Discussion
To make licensing and licensing updates easier, FlexNet Operations releases starting in 2016 moved to a Cloud Licensing Server. This means that installed FlexNet Operations will reach out to a Revenera license server over HTTPS to receive its licenses and then will locally store these licenses. FlexNet Operations will fetch the licenses from the local trusted storage. It will need to refresh by going back to the Cloud Licensing Server every 30 days. If it does not connect, FlexNet Operations will no longer allow users access to the functionality.
FlexNet Operations uses FlexNet Embedded to do its licensing. Initially, when FlexNet Operations is first installed, it automatically comes with a license for 60 days. This gives IT time to configure their networks.
NOTE: Some of our customers may run into issues with configuring their environments and as a result FlexNet Operations may not be able to get their licenses. If this happens, upon logging into the Producer Portal, customers are immediately redirected to the Licensing page and it can be observed that some of the menu tabs may not appear.
For those customers who cannot or do not wish to connect to the Cloud Licensing Server to obtain their FlexNet Operations license, Revenera offers a local license server package that can be deployed in their own environment. They will be able to administer this license server themselves. To implement this, please followed the instructions in the attached FlexNet Embedded License Server Installation and Administration Guide.
