This article shows how an InstallAnywhere Variable can be set based on the installer UI mode

Discussion

InstallAnywhere installers can be run in three different UI modes: Gui, Console and Silent. The InstallAnywhere variable that holds the value of the Installer UI mode is INSTALLER_UI.

$INSTALLER_UI$=SWING

In Console mode:

$INSTALLER_UI$=CONSOLE

In Silent mode:

$INSTALLER_UI$=SILENT

1. Add a Set InstallAnywhere Variable action in the Pre-Install sequence such that

Variable Name: $Variable_1$

Set Value To: value_1

2. Go to Rules tab of the Set InstallAnywhere Variable action and click on ?Add Rule? to add ?Compare InstallAnywhere Variables? rule where

Operand 1: $INSTALLER_UI$

Equals

Operand 2: SWING

In the above example, the variable Variable_1 gets set to value_1 only if installer is run in Gui mode.
