This article talks about different messages that are displayed when there is version mismatch between a merge module and its main installer.

Discussion

Merge Modules can be merged into a main installer from Organization>Modules section. Or, they can be integrated with a main installer project using the Install Merge Module action. In either case, the Merge module and the main installer project must be built with the same version of InstallAnywhere. Trying to use a merge module that is built with one version of InstallAnywhere, in a main installer project built with a different version of InstallAnywhere, the following errors are displayed from the project:

If the Merge Module is installed from the Install Merge Module action using the "Locate Merge Module at Install Time" option, then in such case, the user will see an error similar to the following one in the standard install log after install:

Install Merge Module: 

C:\ 2010SP1_Build_Output\Default_Configuration\Merge_Modules\2010SP1.iam.zip

Status: ERROR

Additional Notes: ERROR - Unable to install 2010SP1.iam.zip built with another version of InstallAnywhere.
