Summary
How to bypass a dialog that states "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?"Synopsis
When launching the InstallAnywhere Advanced Designer, a UAC prompt will be seen: Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?
This article provides a way in which this dialog can be bypassed.
Discussion
The InstallAnywhere launcher will attempt to elevate to run as an administrator when running on Windows Vista and newer Operating Systems. While this will eliminate potential permissions issues, it is not strictly necessary. The UAC prompt can be eliminated, so that IA will run as the user invoking InstallAnywhere. To do this, a new launcher must be created to launch InstallAnywhere. To create this new launcher, perform the following steps:
1. In the directory <IA home>\resource\launchanywheres\windows, a file named lax_gui_invoker.exe can be found. Copy this file to the <IA home> directory. This will be the same location as InstallAnywhere.exe is located.
2. Rename the copied file lax_gui_invoker.exe to "iainvoker.exe"
3. In the <IA home> folder, copy the file InstallAnywhere.lax, rename the copy to "iainvoker.lax"
4. After performing the above steps, launch InstallAnywhere using iainvoker.exe. There will no longer be a UAC prompt to elevate.
Note: The file names listed above do not need to be "iainvoker". Any meaningful name can be used. The important thing to note is that the .exe has to have the same name as the .lax file.
