Only the default language is shown when /clone_wait parameter is used.Symptoms
In InstallShield 2016 SP1, the /clone_wait command line parameter was introduced to allow the MSI exe launcher to wait on the installation. However due to this new command line parameter, the MSI exe launcher only uses the default installation language. The language of the OS and the /L command line switch are ignored.Cause
Due to design changes made for the /clone_wait command line parameter, the MSI exe launcher does not properly pass the /L language selection to the installation and instead will always pass the default language.Steps To Reproduce
If you do not use the /clone_wait command line parameter with your multi-language installation, you will see the correct behavior for the MSI exe launcher.For example...
1.) Create a new Basic MSI installation make sure German and English are included setup languages.
2.) Assuming you are running on an English OS, make German the default language.
3.) Finally build your installation and in the release wizard, make sure that both English and German are included and that German is the default langauge. Also make sure you include the MSI exe launcher and complete the build.
Now if you run the resulting exe on your English OS, the English UI dialogs should appear at run time. Even though German is the default language, the OS language is English and so the MSI exe launcher will run in English.
However if you run the same installation again, but pass the /clone_wait command line switch, you will see that your installation will now use German UI dialogs.
Resolution
- Ensure that the latest Service Pack 1 is installed for InstallShield 2016. Check the version of IsDev.exe to be greater than or equal to version 23.0.0.428
- Close any open instances of InstallShield.
- Rename the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield\2016\Redist\Language Independent\i386\Setupe.exe" to ORIG_Setup.exe.
- Rename the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield\2016\Redist\Language Independent\i386\SetupPreReq.exe" to ORIG_SetupPreReq.exe.
- Download and save the attached hotfix file below : IOJ-1815849_ISDEV-38143.zip
- Uncompress the files locally.
- Copy the Hotfixed Setup.exe and SetupPreReq.exe to location %ProgramFiles%\InstallShield\2016\Redist\Language Independent\i386
- Open InstallShield, rebuild your installation media and test.
Workaround
We have addressed this issue in a hot fix IOJ-1815849_ISDEV-38143 for InstallShield 2016 Service Pack 1. The fix is also included in InstallShield 2016 Service Pack 2 and later versions of InstallShield.Related KB Articles
