The rmpasswd_win.js file is a script that removes sensitive information, such as passwords, from data gathered in inventory related to Oracle Fusion Middleware. This article describes how the file is executed and what may happen if it can't be.
How the rmpasswd_win.js file is executed
When the PerformOracleFMWScan agent preference is set to "true" on a computer running a Windows operating system to gather Oracle Fusion Middleware data as part of inventory, the ndtrack.exe inventory gathering process will:
- Create a file named rmpasswd_win.js in the %TEMP% directory of the user that the ndtrack.exe process is running as. When ndtrack.exe runs as the SYSTEM user, this directory is commonly C:\Windows\Temp.
- Execute the script with a command line like the following:
%SystemRoot%\System32\cscript.exe "%TEMP%\rmpasswd_win.js" - Remove the created rmpasswd_win.js file.
NOTE: Agent versions prior to the 2022 R1.5 (18.5) release will not do the final remove step. See the following article for more information: Known Issue: rmpasswd_win.js file is not deleted on computers after gathering Oracle Fusion Middleware inventory (IOJ-2244762).
What happens if rmpasswd_win.js can't be executed?
Some security software (including Windows Defender) may block the execution of rmpasswd_win.js in certain configurations. If this occurs, it's generally recommended that the security software be configured to allow the script's execution.
If the script cannot be executed on a computer, then Oracle Fusion Middleware data will not be gathered and uploaded from that computer.
