Summary

Symptoms

After installing a setup prerequisite successfully, the setup prerequisite launcher returns the following error:

The installation of [1] appears to have failed. Do you want to continue the installation?

[1] resolves to the name of a setup prerequisite.

Cause

One of the following may have caused this error:

1. An invalid location for a file or registry entry has been specified in the condition.

2. No conditions are set for the setup prerequisite.

3. None of the conditions set for the setup prerequisite have changed in value.

Resolution

1. The conditions specified in the Prerequisite Editor are not evaluated until run time. If you are checking for a registry entry or key, confirm that the location is correct. If you are checking for the existence (or non-existence) of a file, confirm that the path is correct and the path variable is supported. The supported path variables are:
   • [CommonFilesFolder]
   • [ProgramFilesFolder]
   • [SystemFolder]
   • [WindowsFolder]

2. Setup prerequisites require at least one condition that will determine whether the prerequisite was successfully installed. Create at least one condition for the setup prerequisite that will evaluate differently after the installation of the prerequisite.

3. The Setup Prerequisite conditions will be executed twice: once before the installation of the prerequisite and once after the installation of the prerequisite. At least one of the conditions specified in the Prerequisite Editor must change in its evaluation after the second execution of the Setup Prerequisite condition. Create a condition that will evaluate differently after the installation of the prerequisite.
