Simplified guide to installing lmadmin on Windows
Synopsis
The License Administration manual covers this but in attempting to cover all variations it can be difficult to follow a basic default installation.
The guide covers such a situation, based on Version 11.11, and can be a useful learning tool to developing more complex installations.
Discussion
Steps to follow:
- Download the lmadmin installer 'lmadmin-i86_n3-11_11_0_0.exe' from our site and copy to a convenient directory.
- Start the installer accepting any security warnings
- Proceed through the installation options accepting all defaults except ?
- Select to install the Visual C++ 2005 SP1 unless you know it is already present
- Select to 'Run as a service'
- Do NOT attempt to 'start now' and exit installer
- From the Windows 'Services' utility check that the lmadmin service has been installed and start it.
- From a web browser window enter the address http://localhost:8090
- Select the 'Administration' GUI and enter the password 'admin' to the admin user.
- You will be prompted to enter a new password
- Select the 'Vendor Daemon Configuration' tab
- Select a suitable directory for the license file source and copy the relevant license file there.
- Select the 'Import License' option.
- Browse to the above directory and select the license file
- Select the 'Import License' option
- The license file should be uploaded and the new daemon configured successfully
- But there will be import errors and warnings about a missing executable this is to be expected
- Enter 'OK'
- Select a suitable directory for the daemon executable and copy it and its *_iibFNP.dll (if appropriate for activationable licensing) there.
- Click on the daemon name to edit it's properties
- Enter the daemon library and daemon name in the 'Vendor Daemon Location' box and click save.
- Select the 'Start' option
- After a short time, refresh the screen by clicking on the 'Vendor Daemon Configuration' tab and the daemon status should now be 'Up' which can be confirmed from the Dashboard view showing the served Features.
