Discussion

On Windows Vista and Windows 7 the operating system has much more control over protected keys. Regsvr32 and msiexec are shimmed by the operating system and allowed to write to protected keys. Our InstallScript engine is not shimmed by the operating system. Because of that you can?t use the InstallScript engine to register files that need to write to protected keys .

To workaround this limitation use Regsvr32 in your script to register the files that fail. The function LaunchApplication allows applications to be launched. One of the options of LaunchApplication function is LAAW_OPTION_USE_SHELLEXECUTE. This option allows elevation which is needed to register a file.
