This article describes the method of specifying a temporary directory other than the default when running an installer using the Other Java-Enabled Platforms launcher (Jar file).

Discussion

In order to change the directory used by the installer to extract its temporary files when launching the installer using the Other Java-Enabled Platforms launcher, a Java System Property must be set from the command line when launching the installer. The Java System Property that must be set is different for Windows and Unix based platforms. On Windows, the following Java System Property must be set to the absolute path of the desired temporary directory:

lax.nl.env.tmp

In order to set this Java System Property the following command line could be used when launching the installer:

java -Dlax.nl.env.tmp="C:\NewTempDir" -jar install.jar

On non-Windows platforms, the following Java System Property must be set to the absolute path of the desired temporary directory:

lax.nl.env.iatempdir

like:

java -Dlax.nl.env.iatempdir=/newtempdir -jar install.jar

The installer should then extract its temporary files to the directory specified by the Java System Property.
