This article describes how to properly use the dollar sign symbol ($) in InstallAnywhere.
Discussion
The dollar sign symbol ($) is a special character in InstallAnywhere, because the dollar sign symbol is used to resolve InstallAnywhere variables. For instance, an InstallAnywhere variable would be resolved as follows:
$IA_VARIABLE$
The user needs to be careful when using dollar signs in InstallAnywhere projects. For example, if a pair of dollar signs is used in a text file that is modified by a Modify Text File Action and the Substitute InstallAnywhere variables in file option is checked, InstallAnywhere will remove the dollar signs (and the text in between) during runtime. These could also be dollar signs in Execute Command Actions and Execute Script/Batch file Actions. This applies to dollar signs, especially dollar signs referencing Linux variables. Instead, the user should replace dollar signs that do not correspond to InstallAnywhere variables with the following InstallAnywhere variable:
$DOLLAR$
The InstallAnywhere variable ($DOLLAR$) is case sensitive and resolves to:
$
The following InstallAnywhere variable reference will resolve to literally nothing:
$dollar$
