What could be the cause of this problem and how can it be resolved?

In a Windows environment you will need to rebuild the kit without lmstripping any of the binaries. Remove thelmstrip calls from the makefile and rebuild. Provide the new un-lmstripped daemon to your customer. This should resolve your problem.
