After upgrading to Snow License Manager 9.0, the first Data Update Job (DUJ) 2.0 may become stuck at the JobInventoryGetInventoryData step and never complete.
No error may appear in the table error log or in msdb.dbo.sysjobhistory. In SQL Server Management Studio, the required DUJ 2.0 jobs may also be missing under SQL Server Agent > Jobs.
This issue can occur when LicenseManagerUser does not have the required permissions to read SQL Server Agent job information in the msdb database.
This article applies to:
- Snow License Manager 9.x
- Snow Inventory Server 6.0.3
- Data Update Job 2.0
The required DUJ 2.0 jobs are not created under SQL Server Agent > Jobs:
Verify that LicenseManagerUser has the required permissions in the msdb database, and add the permissions if they are missing.
-
Run the following query as
LicenseManagerUser:EXECUTE AS USER ='LicenseManagerUser' select * from msdb.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES Where TABLE_NAME='sysjobhistory'
If the user does not have the required read permission, the query returns no results.
-
Run the following query:
use msdb select * from dbo.sysjobhistory
If the required permission is missing, the following error is returned:
The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'sysjobhistory', database 'msdb', schema 'dbo'.
-
In SQL Server Management Studio, expand
msdb> Security > Users. Right-clickLicenseManagerUserand select Properties. -
Select Membership and verify whether the required role memberships shown below are assigned.
-
Select the required roles shown below.
-
Select Securables, click Search, select Specific Objects, and click OK.
-
Click Object Types, select Tables, and click OK.
-
Click Browse and select the following tables:
dbo.sysjobhistorydbo.sysjobsdbo.sysjobsteps
Click OK.
-
Click OK in the Select Objects window.
-
Under Securables, select
sysjobhistory, sysjobs, andsysjobstepsone at a time and grant SELECT permission for each object. Click OK when finished. -
Verify that the required permissions are now available:
-
Run the following query again:
EXECUTE AS USER ='LicenseManagerUser' select * from msdb.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES Where TABLE_NAME='sysjobhistory'
The query should now return a result:
-
Run the following query:
use msdb select * from dbo.sysjobhistory
-
Verify that the query returns rows from
sysjobhistorywithout a permission error.
-
If the Data Update Job failed
If the DUJ failed, reset the applicable job tables before running the job again.
-
Stop the job if necessary:
USE msdb GO EXEC dbo.sp_stop_job N'License Manager Data Update'
-
Update the job status:
UPDATE tblJobStatus SET LastJobStatus = 'Job finished successfully'
-
Update the log:
UPDATE tblJobLog SET Message = 'Job finished successfully' WHERE JobType = 'JOB_RUN'
-
New Step for SLM 9: Reset the DUJ 2.0 temporary tables
