When working with TI Custom Reports, you may encounter an error while creating or editing a report visual:
Error fetching data for this visual. Could not render a report visual titled undefined. Please contact support.
This error occurs when the visual attempts to load more records than Power BI supports.
Power BI visuals have a limit of 1 million records per visual. If a visual exceeds this limit, it fails and returns the error above.
To avoid the error:
- Apply filters or slicers to reduce the number of records shown in a single visual.
- A filter limits the dataset at the report, page, or visual level.
- A slicer is a visual filter you can add to the report (for example, by device name, software, or date).
- Split large datasets into multiple visuals.
- For example, create two grids:
- One grid showing devices with installs.
- Another grid showing software with installs.
- For example, create two grids:
- Use cross-filtering between visuals.
- These grids are interactive: selecting a device in the Device Grid automatically filters the Software Grid to show related software.
- Likewise, selecting software in the Software Grid filters the Device Grid to show the related devices.
TIP: To view the filters and slicers applied to a single visual, click the Filter button on that visual. Hover over the button icon to see its name.
By applying filters (such as slicers), you can limit visuals to fewer than 1 million records. The error will no longer appear, and your custom report visuals will render successfully.
