Introduction
Revenera will be modernizing the SAP BusinessObjects platform that supports FlexNet Operations Reporter. The FAQs below were authored to help prepare users for the upcoming changes and answer common questions.
#1 What is changing?
Revenera is modernizing the SAP BusinessObjects platform that supports FlexNet Operations Reporter. This effort includes:
- Modernizing the underlying reporting framework.
- Migrating reporting universes from Universe Design Tool (UDT) to Information Design Tool (IDT).
- Upgrading the reporting platform from SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.3 to SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025.
This work will help ensure the Reporter platform remains secure and supported.
#2 Why is Revenera making this change?
SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.3 is approaching the end of its support lifecycle. Upgrading to SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 allows Revenera to:
- Continue receiving security updates.
- Maintain platform stability and supportability.
- Reduce technical debt associated with legacy reporting technologies.
#3 What are the phases of this project?
Phase 1: Reporting Universe Modernization
This phase includes:
- Converting UDT universes to IDT.
- Validating universe objects, joins, filters, calculations, and connections.
- Testing report compatibility.
- Remapping reports to the new IDT universes.
Phase 2: SAP BusinessObjects Platform Upgrade
This phase includes:
- Upgrading SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.3 to BI 2025.
- Validating report execution, scheduling functionality, security and integrations.
- Transitioning users to the upgraded platform.
#4 What is the current timeline?
Phase 1: UAT Environment
| Activity | Planned Timeline | Customer Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Universe Conversion and Validation | October 16, 2026 | No customer impact |
| Report Mapping and Validation | November 2 - November 20, 2026 | Reports may be temporarily unavailable during report mapping and validation activities. |
Phase 1: Production Environment
| Activity | Planned Timeline | Customer Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Universe Conversion and Validation | December 31, 2026 | No customer impact |
| Report Mapping, Validation, and Cutover | January 11 – January 29, 2027 | Reports may be temporarily unavailable during report mapping and validation activities. |
NOTE: Phase 2 (SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 platform upgrade) is currently targeted for Q2 2027. Additional guidance and timelines will be shared in future communications.
#5 Why do reports need to migrate from UDT and IDT?
All current Reporter reports are built on universes created using SAP's legacy Universe Design Tool (UDT). SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 supports only the newer Information Design Tool (IDT) framework. Before the platform can be upgraded, the existing universes must be converted, tested, and validated in the IDT framework.
#6 How is Revenera safeguarding reports and minimizing migration risk?
We understand that customers rely on FlexNet Operations Reporter for critical operational and business reporting. Protecting the availability and integrity of your existing reports is a primary focus of this initiative.
Revenera has established a controlled migration and validation process.
Each report will go through a Map -> Refresh -> Validate -> Save workflow before migration is completed.
Additional safeguards include:
- Controlled migration batches.
- Validation before changes are finalized.
- Backup copies of migrated reports.
- Recovery options should issues be identified after migration.
#7 Will I see any changes during universe conversion activities?
No. Universe conversion and validation activities are internal activities performed by Revenera. Existing reports and universes will continue to operate without disruption during these activities. No customer impact is expected during universe conversion itself.
#8 Will my existing reports continue to work?
Yes. As part of the modernization effort, Revenera will validate report compatibility and perform testing throughout the migration process. Existing reports will be remapped to the new IDT framework and validated before migration activities are finalized.
#9 What happens if a report fails during the mapping process?
If a report fails validation during the mapping process and requires investigation time, we will not save the changes to that report. In such cases, the report will continue to work with the existing (UDT) universe.
For reports that are successfully mapped, backup copies of the original reports will be retained to support recovery if issues are identified later.
#10 Will there be downtime?
No Reporter application downtime is expected during the migration process. Any impact is expected to be limited to individual reports that encounter issues during mapping.
In those cases, disruptions are expected to be brief, and if a report requires additional investigation, it will continue to operate using the existing reporting framework until the issue is resolved.
#11 How will I know when my reports have been migrated?
Revenera is currently finalizing how migration completion status will be communicated to customers. Additional details will be provided before migration activities begin.
#12 Do customers need to do any testing?
Revenera recommends validating reports in UAT after UAT migration activities have been completed.
Additional guidance on recommended testing and validation activities will be provided as the project progresses.
#13 What happens to reports created during the migration period?
For UAT:
- Reports created up to November 2, 2026 are expected to be included in the migration.
- Updates to existing reports and new reports created between November 2, 2026 and November 20, 2026 may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
For Production:
- A similar approach is planned beginning January 11, 2027.
- Additional details will be communicated before Production migration activities begin.
#14 Will scheduled reports continue to run after migration?
Yes. Revenera plans to validate scheduling functionality as part of the migration and upgrade process.
#15 Will report URLs, security settings, or integrations change?
Security, report execution, scheduling, and integrations are planned validation areas during the BI 2025 upgrade phase.
At this time, no specific customer-facing changes to report access, security settings, or integrations have been announced.
#16 What action is required from customers?
No immediate action is required.
Customers should:
- Review your existing reports and consider removing any reports that are no longer needed or actively used.
- Monitor future communications regarding migration schedules.
- Validate reports in UAT once migration activities are completed.
- Report any unexpected issues to Revenera Support.
