Ocean lets you configure a cooldown period to control how frequently scale-down activities occur in your cluster. This article explains what the cooldown parameter does, its default value, and how to configure it.

The cooldown parameter is the period of time, in seconds, that Ocean waits after completing a scaling action before initiating another scaling action. This setting applies to scale-down events only.

For scale-up events, Ocean acts immediately when additional resources are needed.

• The default cooldown time is 300 seconds (5 minutes).

• The cooldown setting currently operates at the cluster level, meaning it applies across all virtual node groups (VNGs). If a node in one VNG is scaled down, Ocean waits for the cooldown to expire before scaling down another node in any other VNG.

How to configure the cooldown period

1. In the Spot console:

   • Navigate to Ocean > Cloud Clusters.

   • Select the target cluster.

   • Click Actions > Edit Cluster > Review > JSON > Edit Mode to update the setting.

2. Using APIs:

   • Ocean AWS cluster update

   • Ocean ECS cluster update

   • Ocean GKE cluster update
