Stateful Elastigroup instances can retain root and data volumes to ensure persistence across launches. If you need more storage capacity, you can increase the size of the Root and/or Data volumes without rebuilding your instance.

There are two ways to increase the volume size of a Stateful instance:

1. Modify the volume via AWS console:
   a. Go to EC2 Service → Elastic Block Store → Volumes
   b. Filter by the volume
    
   c. Select Actions → Modify Volume
    
   d. Enter the new increased volume size and click Modify
   
    

   • The volume size will be adjusted and Elastigroup will synchronize the running instance details with the new size of the volume, so the increased size reflects in the Stateful instance.

   • Using this method does not require recycling the Stateful instance for the size change to apply.

2. Modify the volume via Elastigroup:

   • Configure a Block Device Mapping within Elastigroup to override the size of Root and/or Data volumes (supports On-Launch and Snapshot backups).

   • When using this method, recycle the Stateful instance if it is running to apply the change.

Note: Volume size must be greater than or equal to the existing size. Reducing the volume size below its current capacity is not supported.

Outcome

Your Stateful instance will have an increased Root and/or Data volume size, applied according to the method chosen.
