Oracle WebLogic Suite is a collection of products that includes WebLogic Enterprise Edition, Oracle Coherence, Java SE Suite, and Oracle Forms/Reports. Oracle bundles these together, which introduces challenges for Oracle Management Option (OMO) in Snow License Manager when representing and licensing the suite.
The OMO system can recognize individual Oracle middleware products:
- Oracle WebLogic
- Oracle Business Intelligence
- Oracle Forms Reports
- Oracle SOA Suite
- Oracle Tuxedo
- Oracle Web Center
When Oracle WebLogic Suite is installed, you may notice that the Entitlements screen shows only one of the components for licensing, such as Forms & Reports or Business Intelligence.
OMO displays one top-level middleware product per server in the Entitlements screen because it expects each Oracle Home to contain only one top-level middleware product. When WebLogic Suite is installed, multiple suite components share the same Oracle Home, which prevents OMO from representing the suite as a single licensable product.
Examples
Example 1
In this example, one machine has two separate installations of WebLogic Server 12c, each in its own Oracle Home path:
Navigation path: Enterprise → Oracle Overview → Products → Oracle WebLogic Server (either edition) → Installations
As a result, the Entitlements screen displays a single instance of Oracle WebLogic Server Standard Edition for licensing.
Entitlements navigation: Enterprise → Oracle Overview → Entitlements → License assignments
The number of installations on the same server does not affect licensing, as licensing is based on the hardware rather than individual software installations.
Example 2
In this WebLogic Suite installation, OMO detects Forms & Reports, Coherence, and WebLogic Server. Notice that all three products reside in the same oracle home path.
Navigation path: Enterprise → Oracle Overview → Products → Oracle WebLogic Server (either edition) → Installations
Despite detecting multiple products, the Entitlements screen displays only one because OMO expects a single top-level middleware product in each Oracle Home. In this example, OMO selected Forms & Reports, although it could have selected any of the three detected components.
Customers running WebLogic Suite own a license for the entire suite, not for the individual products that make up the suite. In the screenshot above, the Entitlements screen suggests the Forms & Reports installation needs licensing because the system does not recognize it as part of the suite. Since the customer can not own a license for Forms & Reports specifically, nothing can be applied, and the server will remain in a “Not compliant” state.
