This article outlines what the dmc command does and why you'd want to use it with your Snow Inventory Server.
When the Snow Inventory Server is first set up and installed in an environment, most of the modules that come with the installation are set to the hardcoded defaults. There may be occasions where you later change these settings from their default state. To confirm what the post-install defaults are, and how you can modify these, follow these steps:
IMPORTANT: When making any changes to any Snow configuration file, make sure you have taken a backup of the file before making changes. This ensures that in case of any issues you have a method to revert changes.
1. Open the Windows Command Prompt with administrator privileges on the Snow Inventory Server Application server.
2. Change the working directory to the following: C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Inventory\Server.
3. Confirm you're in the correct path by running the following command: dir
4. Once confirmed, run the following command: snowserver.exe dmc > output.txt
5. A new text file has been added to the Snow Inventory Server working directory called Output.txt. Open this file in a text editor, (such as Microsoft Notepad). The contents will be a full list of all the Snow Inventory Server modules with their current settings/parameters.
6. You can now copy one or more modules and amend them as required by the needs of your environment, then add them to the main snowserver.config file. As an example, the first module from the output example above (ActiveDirectoryDiscoveryModule) is used in this step. This section is copied into the main snowserver.config file, then the values are changed as needed.
Note: This is just one example of how the Snow Inventory Server can be altered in its configuration. However, multiple modules can be added at once and amended as needed.
7. Once you're done making changes, save the file.
8. Restart the Snow Inventory Server Windows service to commit the changes you've made.
9. Once restarted successfully, the configuration changes will be committed and the settings will be applied to the Snow Inventory Application.
