Symptoms

When building an InstallShield project, the following error occurs:

Error -1530: The size specified for the disk is too small for the file

Cause

The size of the built media exceeds the size allotted.

Resolution

Make sure the size of the built release will not exceed the size allotted. The following can influence the total size of the built setup:

• Review the merge modules that are included in the setup. Some merge modules, such as Microsoft Access 97, can add up to an additional 500 MB to the project size.

• Check the Setup Files view under Define Setup Requirements and Actions in the InstallShield IDE and make sure the Disk1 folder does not contain a large number of files. These files are copied to the media folder and increase the size of the built setup. Because all files in the Disk1 folder are copied to the first disk, you need to make sure that these files do not exceed the size of one disk. For example, if you are building a CD-ROM build, the files in the Disk1 folder should not exceed approximately 600 MB, as they would not fit on the first CD.
