Summary

Fatal error -7001: During the last build, the MSI file was only partially built. In order to stream the script into the MSI file, you must have a complete MSI file. Build a complete MSI file by selecting 'Build [1]' from the Build menu.

Symptoms

When building a project created in InstallShield, the following error may occur:

"Fatal error -7001: During the last build, the MSI file was only partially built. In order to stream the script into the MSI file, you must have a complete MSI file. Build a complete MSI file by selecting 'Build [1]' from the Build menu."

[1] is a placeholder that contains the release name.

Cause

When the build process is cancelled by a user clicking the Stop Build button, a partially built MSI file is created. After this occurs, when the user selects the Compile option, this error occurs because the script cannot be streamed into a partially built MSI file.

Resolution

To resolve this error message, build a full release before attempting to compile the script. Once a full release is built, the Compile button can be pressed without this error occurring because the script can stream into a fully built MSI file.
