Build log when Distributing Releases to VMWare Workstation indicates: LoginGuest: VIX error 3

This article discusses the error message written to the InstallShield build log when using the Distributing Releases feature

Symptoms

The following message is written to the build log:

VMWare LoginGuest: VIX error 3

Cause

The unexpected entry in a build log is evident when using the Distributing Releases to a Virtual Machine using workstation that InstallShield Provisions at Build Time or on Demand.

The virtual is expected to be added to a domain to allow Windows Authentication to be used. Use the Edit Virtual Machine Configurations dialog box to configure virtual machine settings that you want to use when distributing successfully built releases to VMs at build time or on demand. Behavior exists on VMware Workstation 8.x through 11.

Please note Flexera no longer supports VMWare Workstation versions less than what VMWare supports. Reference the VMWare matrix link below for detail.

Resolution

This is a known issue and expected to be addressed in a later InstallShield release.
