Can I remove the text "InstallShield" from the startup message and the Wizard dialogs in my installation?
Answer
When an InstallShield installation starts, it presents a message box stating that the InstallShield Wizard is in the process of starting up and will enable the setup of the application on that system. Additionally, the InstallShield Wizard dialogs are identified by the text 'InstallShield,' which is displayed in the lower left corner of the dialogs.
The InstallShield text may not be removed from the startup message or from the InstallShield Wizard dialogs for the following reasons:
- Millions of users worldwide recognize the InstallShield Wizard as a reliable way to install software on their desktop. The InstallShield name conveys to the user that your application is reliable and that you invest in your customers with the best installation software available.
- Maintaining the same look and feel allows customer to feel comfortable installing your product with InstallShield. The InstallShield name ensures consistency between installations and creates a better experience for all Windows users.
- Companies, such as Microsoft, Symantec, IBM and thousands of others, ship their application with InstallShield Wizard and have not changed the InstallShield text on the dialogs. Although customers are comfortable with products from these large companies, the added level of trust the InstallShield name provides adds value to the overall customer experience.
- InstallShield spends enormous amounts of resources supporting users that encounter installation issues with the platform they are using, and we feel that the InstallShield text is important to allow users to recognize InstallShield and send us feedback regarding platform issues that they may encounter.
Therefore, in order to provide the best value to our customers, we suggest that the InstallShield text should not be removed from the startup message or the Wizard dialogs.
Additional Information
You could use ORCA to edit the final MSI package after build time to deliver the UI that you desire on your dialogs. However, no technical support is provided for removing the InstallShield text from the startup message or the Wizard dialogs. More information can be found in the EULA.Related Articles
