Summary
Information about creating a silent uninstallation for your event-based InstallScript projectSynopsis
Creating a silent uninstallation for your event-based InstallScript project is very similar to creating a regular silent installation. This article explains the changes you need to be aware of when creating a silent uninstallation.
Discussion
- Run your installation setup.exe and install you application on the system. The next time you run setup.exe, the script will run in maintenance mode, and you should have the option to uninstall your application. If this is not the case and you have modified the default behavior of maintenance mode, then this Knowledge Base article will not apply.
- Run your setup.exe a second time with the -r command-line switch. This command-line switch creates the setup.iss response in the <Windows> directory. Copy the setup.iss file into the same directory where your setup.exe file is located.
To play back the silent uninstallation setup, follow these steps:
- Run setup.exe again so the application is installed on the system.
- Run setup.exe again with the -s command-line switch. This switch runs the install in silent mode. It reads the setup.iss file that resides in the same directory as setup.exe.
- Check for errors in the setup.log file, which will be created in the same directory as setup.exe and setup.iss. To resolve any errors, see the InstallShield Help topic Checking for Errors Using the Setup.log File.

Additional Information
If you plan to have a silent installation as well as a silent uninstallation, you need to have two different response files in two separate locations. To read the appropriate Setup.iss from the right location, append the -f1 switch and specify the location of the Setup.iss file.
