Summary
This article discusses how to make a component or feature destination display properly in InstallShield.Symptoms
In MSI based projects, the destination of a component or feature displays an incorrect value, such as 0, instead of an expected value like INSTALLDIR. This is only a display issue in the interface and does not affect run-time behavior of the setup at install time.
Cause
This behavior is caused by a property existing in the Property Manager with the same name as the directory's Directory Identifier. In the example listed above, a property exists in the Property Manager named INSTALLDIR with a value of 0.
Resolution
This behavior can be resolved by removing the problematic entry from the Property Manager. The following steps describe the process:
- The first step is to identify the property. Select the Behavior and Logic > Property Manager view and scan the Value column for the data that is incorrectly displayed as the feature or component's Destination. This property shares the name of the directory expected to be displayed as the Destination.
- Once the property is found, it can be removed by right-clicking the row and selecting the Delete Property option.
- Save the project.
- Close and re-open InstallShield. The Destination fields should now display the correct value.
Additional Information
To find the property as described in step 1, it may be helpful to compare the Property Manager with the Directory table of the project. This table can be viewed from the Additional Tools > Direct Editor view. If a property exists with the same name as a value in the Directory column of this table, it causes the behavior described by this article.
