Summary

Symptoms

On a dialog box with a large background bitmap, such as InstallWelcome or SetupCompleteSuccess, some controls, such as a check box or scrollable text control, do not show up at run time. When the area around the control is clicked, it shows up on top of the background bitmap.

Cause

Windows Installer draws the controls whose TabStop are set to True first in the order of the TabIndexes. Next, Windows Installer draws the controls whose TabStop are set to False. If the TabStop property of the default background bitmap is set to False and there is a control occupying the same space with its TabStop also set to False, the control may not show up on top of the bitmap.

Resolution

To make the control appear on top of the bitmap, set the control's TabStop property to True in the dialog editor. Then, set the TabStop attribute for the bitmap to True. Finally, adjust the TabIndex of the control so it is higher than the TabIndex of the bitmap.

At run time, the bitmap is drawn before the other control, and the control does show up on top of the bitmap. Even though the TabStop attribute of the bitmap is True, it is not a tab-enabled control. Hitting the Tab key does not select the bitmap. It instead selects the next control that supports tabbing.
