FlexNet Code Insight Error: 'Illegal mix of collations' when processing Auto-WriteUp rules

Summary

This article documents the procedure for modifying the database collation rules to match the prerequisites of FlexNet Code Insight which require the use of 'utf8_general_ci' collation

Synopsis

We have encountered a FlexNet Code Insight error when processing Auto-Writeup rules. We are running on CentOS 7 and using MySQL as database (mysql-community-server-5.6.40-2.el7.x86_64).

When I reviewed the according log file (Auto-WriteUp.log.0) the following error came up:

Discussion

This error is caused by incorrect database collation settings. The collation settings in the my.cnf MySQL properties file need to be modified from 'utf8_unicode_ci' to 'utf8_general_ci' . This can be achieved using the following instructions:

1. Shut down tomcat
2. Shut down MySQL
3. Modify the 'utf8_unicode_ci' line to 'utf8_general_ci'
4. Restart your MySQL daemon (Restart MySQL).
5. Restart tomcat
