Summary
This article will explain 2 methods of specifying how Windows Installer waits for a control event on a Windows Service.
Synopsis
Sometimes it is necessary to force Windows Installer to wait for a longer period of time when attempting to stop a Windows Service. This article will describe the 2 methods of waiting for a control event on a Windows Service.
Discussion
By default the wait type set in the project will be "Wait for the event to complete". It should be noted however that the maximum time the Windows Installer will wait for is 30 seconds.
An alternative method which may allow a longer wait period is to select the 2nd "Wait Type" option: "Wait for the SCM". This option will force the Installer to wait for the Service Control Manager to report that the service is in a pending state.
