It is possible to determine if a New-Style InstallScript MSI is running silently by checking the value of the property MSICLIENTUSESEMBEDDEDUI.Discussion
In a New-Style InstallScript MSI, the normal means of detecting whether an installation is silent will not work. This is because an InstallScript MSI uses the MSI portion for actual changes to the system but uses the InstallScript engine to power the UI. In New-style, the UI is included within the actual MSI.As a result, the current running mode can actually be determined by checking the value of the property MSICLIENTUSESEMBEDDEDUI.
MSICLIENTUSESEMBEDDEDUI will only be set when an installer is using an embedded UI.
This means it will only be set if the new-style InstallScript MSI is not running silently. In order to access the MSICLIENTUSESEMBEDDEDUI property, it is necessary to push the property into CustomActionData and check it from there.
