Summary
How to use Windows Installer Properties and the INSTALLSHIELD_IIS_NEXT_NEW_SITE_NUMBER Property to install multiple IIS Web sitesSynopsis
Discussion
To ensure a unique number is assigned to each of the Web sites being created by the installation, a unique Windows Installer property referencing the INSTALLSHIELD_IIS_NEXT_NEW_SITE_NUMBER property should be used as the setting for each Web site Site Number setting. The technique is outline below:
- Create a new Windows Installer property and set its value to INSTALLSHIELD_IIS_NEXT_NEW_SITE_NUMBER:
a) In the View List under Behavior and Logic, click Property Manager.
b) Click the New Property button. InstallShield adds a new row at the bottom of the view.
c) In the Name column, type a new property; for example: MYPROPERTY1
d) In the Value column, enter: INSTALLSHIELD_IIS_NEXT_NEW_SITE_NUMBER
- Using the procedure in Step 1, create a second new Windows Installer property (e.g. MYPROPERTY2) setting the Property's value to INSTALLSHIELD_IIS_NEXT_NEW_SITE_NUMBER.
- Specify the first property (e.g. MYPROPRTY1) to configure the first Web site?s Site Number setting:
a) In the View List under Server Configuration, click Internet Information Services.
b) In the Web Sites explorer, select the Web site that you want to configure.
c) For the Site Number setting, enter the property. It must be in uppercase letters and enclosed within brackets; for example:
[MYPROPERTY1]
- Specify the second property (e.g, MYPROPERTY2) to configure the second Web site's Site Number setting.
Additional Information
When the same property is used for both Web sites, the installation successfully creates both Web sites with unique Site IDs, but during uninstall, the first Web site does not get removed.
