This article discusses the limitations of using an InstallScript MSI project.

Discussion

Currently, there are a few limitations with regard to Windows Installer functionality when you create an InstallScript MSI project.

Some of the current InstallScript MSI project limitations include:

• Administrative installations of InstallScript MSI projects do not copy setup files to the target system. To copy the files, you need to implement this in your script using the InstallScript view.

• Command-line parameters for feature states (ADDLOCAL, REMOVE) are not handled properly by the script.

• The feature selection dialog does not allow end users to select Advertise and run from source, as is the case on the MSI custom selection dialog. This may only be an issue if the setup types dialog is being used.

• MigrateFeatureStates does not work for InstallScript MSI project major upgrades.
