Summary

The InstallShield product including Express Edition build process may fail in different ways based on Trend Micro antivirus software.

Symptoms

The InstallShield product including the Express Edition build process may fail with the following build error, when building and using Trend Micro antivirus software either errors may occur:

Express Edition:
ISEXP : fatal error 0:

Premier/Professional Edition:
ISDEV : fatal error 0:

Resolution

To prevent this behavior, the antivirus program needs to be disabled or removed to allow the build to succeed by taking one of the following steps:
  1. Disabling the Trend Micro antivirus software may resolve this issue.
  2. Excluding the .ise or .ism and .msi file extensions from the antivirus software scans and excluding the InstallShield directory, where InstallShield itself is installed, as well as the build output directory, where the installer is created / generated.
