Summary
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) Prerequisite does not install on Windows Server 2008 R2Symptoms
If including the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) prerequisite with your installer, you may notice that if your application is installed onto Windows Server 2008 R2 the prerequisite will not install.
Cause
This is by design due to the default conditions that are applied within the Prerequisite. As Windows Server 2008 R2 was only released as 64bit, this 32bit prerequisite has been designed to specifically not target this Operating System.
Resolution
It is possible to change this behaviour and include Windows Server 2008 R2 as one of the targetted OS's that the prerequisite will install to - this can be done in the Prerequisite Editor:
1. Select "Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)" within the Redistributables view, right click and select "Edit Prerequisite"
2. Under the Conditions Tab, click "Add"
3. Select "Setup is running on a Specified Platform" and then select "Windows Server 2008 R2 (Any)" from the drop down menu.
4. Once selected click "OK" and be sure to save the changes by clicking File > Save from the top dropdown menu.
5. Rebuild and test the installer.
The "Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)" prerequisite should now be installed when the package is ran on Windows Server 2008 R2.
