Symptoms

The flxfsscan process (or ndtrack process on older FLexNet Inventory Agent version) is used to scan filesystems and gather details about files that are found.

This process can consume large amounts of CPU, memory or storage I/O resources, particular on devices with large filesystems.

Mitigation

Resource consumption by the file scanning process may be able to be reduced by identifying parts of the filesystem on affected devices that contain a particular large number of files or directories, and excluding them from scanning by the inventory gathering process.

To control which directories are excluded from scanning by FlexNet Inventory Agent installations through the Agent’s policy, use the Excluded file evidence setting on the Inventory Settings page.
