When building InstallShield projects using Standalone Build, the build throws "Error: -1131: Failed to load sabuild.dll".

Symptoms

When building InstallShield projects using Standalone Build, the build throws "Error: -1131: Failed to load sabuild.dll".

Cause

The build process cannot find the Visual C++ 8.0 runtime.

Steps To Reproduce

This problem will occur on any machine where the Visual C++ 8.0 runtime has not been installed. This unlikely situation is apt to appear on clean Windows/XP or Windows 2003 Server images.

Resolution

Install the Visual C++ 8.0 runtime on the build machine by running the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86). This file can be obtained from Microsoft at Download vcredist_x86.exe
