This behavior occurs because the Data Intelligence Service distinguishes between 32-bit and 64-bit installations of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
This is expected behavior.
The Data Intelligence Service identifies Adobe Acrobat Reader 2021, 2022, and 2023 differently depending on whether the 32-bit or 64-bit version is installed.
Beginning with Adobe Acrobat Reader 2021, Adobe changed the executable used by the 64-bit version of Acrobat Reader from acrord32.exe to acrobat.exe. The acrobat.exe executable is also used by the paid Adobe Acrobat product.
As a result, 32-bit Acrobat Reader installations are identified using acrord32.exe and are reported as standalone applications, such as:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2021 (32-bit)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 2022 (32-bit)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 2023 (32-bit)
The 64-bit installations use acrobat.exe and are represented as grouped applications, such as:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2021 (64-bit)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 2022 (64-bit)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 2023 (64-bit)
Because both the free Adobe Acrobat Reader and paid Adobe Acrobat products can use acrobat.exe, SnowScript - Scan-AdobeRegScript 1.1 uses registry information to distinguish between the two products.
As long as Adobe continues to use these executables, the architecture-specific naming convention will continue to be used for Adobe Acrobat Reader.
NOTE: The 32-bit and 64-bit naming convention described in this article is specific to Adobe Acrobat Reader. It is required because the available recognition data differs between the 32-bit and 64-bit installations and does not indicate that the same naming convention will be applied to other applications in the Data Intelligence Service database.
